Shipping & Delivery Fees Explained

Posted on

Why do we charge shipping fees?

For standard delivery we charge a $15 flat rate - for Express it's $20. Does this sound high? We agree it is too, but it's also not our fault! Given that we are located rural, Wax & Lye only has the option of using Australia Post for shipping and unfortunately our prices are kind of dictacted by them.

Could our prices be lower? Yes, they could... but your products would be shipped in nothing more than a bag/box that is covered in the Australia Post price and will no doubt arrive broken and leave a sour taste in your mouth each and every time.

Our shipping fee includes not only the prices set by Australia Post, but cover our costs involved in providing quality packaging to avoid your items arriving damaged - In the 7 years we've been running at the time of this update, only ONE item has ever arrived broken - That's not bad odds at all!

Our prices reflect the quality of our work, from the products themselves to the unboxing experience we know you all enjoy at the other end that only small businesses can really supply, and hope you can understand why we charge what we do.

When it comes to local delivery, we do still charge the exact same fees for 2 reasons - 1, in case we ever can't make it and items need to be shipped instead, those fees from above are still covered and 2, we're taking time out of our day when we could be working on other areas of our business and using our fuel etc, and this price goes towards covering those overhead costs.

If you wish to avoid paying these fees, we do offer free shipping / delivery for all orders (excluding wholesale) above $200.

Did you know that to make and sell soap within Australia, soap makers not only have to be fully insured but they also have to be registered with the government as well?

The reason for this is because making soap is a science as much as it is an art form (actually, it's probably more of a science and in my case I just prefer to turn it INTO an art form!)

More than just suds and scents...

At Wax & Lye, we primarily use a method of making soap called "cold process", which means ingredients like oils, butters, waxes etc are combined with something called "lye water" at room temperature, put into a mould and then are allowed to harden before removed and cut into individual bars of soap. This process is called "saponification".
