If you've ever bought a candle, regardless of being handmade or store bought, and been less than impressed by its' performance, have you ever stopped and thought to yourself, "Am I doing something wrong?"
It sounds crazy, doesn't it? Find a match, light the wick and off you go! Nearly anyone can do that. However, you could actually be doing harm to your candles by not caring for them before, during and after their burn.
Before throwing them away, or making your mind up that they were made poorly, please read the helpful care tips below to try and save your candles, and prevent future disappointment!
BEFORE & AFTER BURNING.
To properly care for your candles, please keep them out of direct sunlight where they could either fade, begin to sweat/melt, and also keep them somewhere where they aren't likely to be knocked over and become a fire hazard. If a lid or dust cover is provided, make sure it is replaced between uses.
It is important to remember when you first light your candle that you make sure the wick is around 5-8mm above the surface of the wax, and after extinguishing it always trim the wick back down to this recommended length (once the wax has cooled and reset).
By routinely trimming your wicks after use, it will help create a perfect burn pool and your candle with give the best performance.
WHILST BURNING.
It is strongly advised that you discontinue use when roughly 1cm of wax is left to prevent any accidents, such as burning surfaces or the glassware itself shattering due to overheating.
