More than just suds and scents...

At Wax & Lye, we primarily use a method of making soap called "cold process", which means ingredients like oils, butters, waxes etc are combined with something called "lye water" at room temperature, put into a mould and then are allowed to harden before removed and cut into individual bars of soap. This process is called "saponification".

Each batch of soap we make needs a minimum of 4-6 weeks to "cure" before it is available for sale, which is why you might see new soaps being made on our social media pages, but they won't be available for sale until the following month, perhaps two. All soaps need time to cure to allow any additional moisture within the bars to evaporate, leaving behind a nice solid bar of soap; this process cannot be rushed.

To learn more about our soaps and the process involved in bringing them to life, why not watch us make some on our YouTube channel here!

SOAP BUBBLE THOUGHTS.

At Wax & Lye, we like to offer artisan soaps which means they are designed to be ones that you can't easily buy off a store shelf - That's not what this is about at all!

Our goal is to create our soaps differently, to make them special, and to let creativity run wild while still delivering a quality, practical and cleansing product at the end of the day that everyone can enjoy!

SAFETY DISCLAIMER.

We cannot stress this enough - DO NOT REPLICATE OUR SOAPS!

Without the proper calculations, research and testing done beforehand, it could be very DANGEROUS for you to make and sell soap! Sodium Hydroxide (used to make Lye) can cause blindness, severe burns, allergice reactions, respiratory problems and so much more if used incorrectly! The last thing you want to do is cause yourself or anyone else permanent damage - Trust us, we've had a few near misses ourselves, and we do this all the time!

You will also need to learn correct safety procedures, legal requirements and labelling laws; it literally takes years of practice and research, not to mention spending a small fortune on supplies, and being both insured and registered with the Australian Government to be able to make and sell soap in this country - and it is absolutely imperitive that you do so if you decide to take up this craft!

AICIS REGISTRATION NUMBER: NIC1005570.
