Your Questions, Answered: All About Wax & Lye!
Share
Hey! I’m Kate, the maker behind Wax & Lye, and today I’m answering some of the most common questions I get about my business, my products, and what goes on behind the scenes in my little workshop!
Whether you’re new here or you’ve been around since the early days (Hey legends!), this is your one-stop post for everything you might’ve been wondering about Wax & Lye - minus the boring bits.
So... what is Wax & Lye?
Wax & Lye is my handmade business based in a tiny rural area in the Hunter known as The Branch (which consists of one poorly kept dirt road, lots of farms, and even more cows). I specialise in creating artisan candles, soaps, and self-care goods made with quality ingredients, a dash of creativity, and a whole lot of heart. Everything you see - from the product to the packaging to the marketing and sending - is done by me (hi again!)
Do you sell at markets or have a shop I can visit?
At the time this Q&A goes up, I’m a strictly online business. I love to attend markets (so ask me again closer to Christmas when I'll try and sneak out for a few!), but at the moment I'm unfortunately unable to attend them due to ongoing family commitments. Occasionally, I open the doors to my workshop and invite you all to come and shop on the farm (so make sure you keep an eye out for the next one!), but until then, you can shop 24/7 from the website and have your order posted right to your door. Comfy shopping in your pyjamas? Yes please!
Are all your products handmade?
Yep! Every single item in my shop is handmade!
How often do you restock or launch new products?
I restock my candles and soaps regularly and also release seasonal and limited edition collections throughout the year. These may include things like special soaps, themed mystery boxes or gift packs. These are usually announced on social media and via my newsletter (pro tip: subscribe if you want first dibs!)
Do you take custom orders?
Yes! If you're after custom favours for weddings, events, or special gifts, feel free to reach out. I can’t always say yes (it depends on timing and stock), but I’ll always do my best to help if I can - the more time you give me to work with, the more chance that yes becomes a "Hell Yes!"
What’s with the name “Wax & Lye”?
It’s a little nod to both worlds of what I do. "Wax" is there for the candles as it's a major part of candle making, and soaps simply cannot be made without "Lye" - If a soap says it's "lye free", they're lye-ing!
